This summer had many many fun shoots, and this one with Susan and her beautiful Connemara, Beanie, was my first time photographing at Cousland. I was so excited to explore the yard and see what we could create there. I absolutely love working with new yards, every one has its own character, little corners and backdrops that can make a gallery feel like a home away from home!

Thankfully, we were treated to a gorgeous sunny morning, which meant we could make the most of everything Cousland had to offer. The beautiful brick walls were a particular favourite of mine, giving us some lovely timeless portraits of Beanie, before we headed out onto the long driveway for something a little more relaxed and open.

Susan has had lots of ponies over the years, so this shoot was really about capturing Beanie for who he is now, and the personality that makes him so special to her. Beanie has such a kind, gentle personality, and I was so pleased that we were able to capture that. There’s something about a pony with that sort of expression that you can’t really plan ahead for, you just have to give them the time and space to be themselves.

Susan’s partner, Colin joined us for a little part of the shoot too, and with a horsey background himself, it was lovely to be able to include him in our gallery. Not to mention finishing the shoot off with Tweed the collie as well.

I always love it when the whole family gets involved, whether that’s those who share everyday life with you, or other 4-legged family members. These photographs are ultimately about more than Beanie, they’re about celebrating the life Susan is enjoying with him, the people and animals who are part of it, and all those little details that make this chapter special.
