After what has felt like an endless stretch of winter rain, we were incredibly lucky to catch a dry day for this special shoot with Anne, her horse Lance, and Labrador Finn. We shot at the very end of February, and although we didn't get a frosty morning, there was little peeks of colour in your backdrops for this shoot.

From the very beginning, Lance completely stole the show. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a horse that felt so tuned in. Honestly, I was half convinced he understood every word we said. He did everything we asked of him with ease and patience, a true gentleman throughout. It was so clear how strong the bond is between him and Anne, their connection made every moment feel effortless.

We began the shoot at the entrance to the stables, making the most of a beautiful natural black backdrop created by the drop-off behind them. It was the perfect setting to ease into the session, giving us time to settle in and capture those quieter, more intimate moments. Anne had brought along an amazing selection of outfits, I love a long coat and woolly jumpers, matched with some amazing accessories too.

During a wander around the yard, I stumbled across a set of double wooden doors. Now, getting excited about doors might not sound particularly thrilling, but trust me, these were something special. They added so much character and texture to the images, and quickly became one of my favourite spots of the shoot.

After a short break, we headed down the track towards the fields, where the landscape opened up beautifully behind us. Lance certainly was missed by field neighbours, and we had plenty of excitement from the surrounding ponies, but he handled it all like a pro. After a quick snack and a relaxed wander, he was right back in photoshoot mode.

To finish the session, we made our way over to the railway line, where some wonderful friends joined us with Anne’s Labrador, Finn. It was a little busier than expected with it being the weekend, but we managed to find some quieter moments to work in. I loved being able to include the bridges here, and we had some spring greens starting to come through in the backgrounds!

I absolutely loved working with Anne, Lance, and Finn. It was one of those shoots that just flows from start to finish, full of personality, connection, and those little unexpected moments that make everything come together. I’m so excited to see their chosen images displayed in their home, there’s nothing better than knowing these memories will be enjoyed every day on their walls.
