Midsummer Photoshoots
There is something incredibly special about midsummer photoshoots. The long evenings, soft green landscapes and warm light create the perfect backdrop for capturing the relationship between horse and owner in a way that feels timeless.
Mia and her beautiful mare, Zara, joined me for one of those perfect summer afternoons. Mia was gifted a shoot for her Christmas, and it was great to have it in the diary to look forward to this year.
Zara is now in her twenties, and honestly, doesn't she look absolutely incredible? She's looking fantastic and still has such a kind, gentle expression that made photographing her an absolute joy. Horses like Zara are a wonderful reminder that age really is just a number, and every stage of their life deserves to be celebrated.
Their story makes the photographs even more meaningful. Mia and her family had known Zara for many years while she was one of the much-loved horses at Gleneagles Riding Centre. When Zara retired from riding school life, they were lucky enough to welcome her into their family, giving her the perfect home to enjoy her next chapter. Watching the bond they now share was so heartwarming, and I hope every image reflects the years of trust, love and friendship that have grown between them.
The yard itself was one of those special ones tucked away down a lane. Although it's a smaller, private yard, it is absolutely full of character. Rustic wooden backdrops, beautifully textured buildings, natural tones and sweeping views across the surrounding hills gave us so many gorgeous backdrops to work with.
Mia's outfit choices were absolutely spot on too. Soft, timeless colours complemented both Zara and the surroundings perfectly, creating images that feel elegant without ever looking overly styled. Everything came together effortlessly, making for a wonderfully relaxed afternoon.
One of my favourite parts of every portrait experience is helping clients choose how they'll enjoy their images for years to come. During our viewing appointment, Mia with help from her mum, Susan, completely fell in love with one of my large black statement frame samples on display.
We selected an image that fills the space beautifully, all the while telling a story at the same time. I honestly can't wait to see it hanging on their wall. It's going to look absolutely stunning.
Thank you, Mia, and Susan, for trusting me to capture such an important chapter with Zara. It was such a pleasure to spend the afternoon with you all, and I hope these photographs become treasured memories for many years to come.
