Some photo sessions are about so much more than creating beautiful images. They're about celebrating the relationships we share with the animals who shape our lives. My recent session with Melissa and her two wonderful warmbloods, Ellie and Noble, was all about celebrating all the wonderful years they've spent together so far.

Based just outside Perth, our location offered the most incredible backdrop for the afternoon. With a long tree-lined driveway, barns to choose from, and stunning views stretching into the distance, we were truly spoilt for choice.

We began the session by photographing Ellie and Noble individually, making the most of the feed room and hay barn to create a simple black background. I absolutely love using spaces like this, as they strip away distractions and allow every little expression and detail to shine. These quieter portraits capture those gentle moments that we experience as horse owners, but never get to see what they look like.

Ellie and Noble have both been part of Melissa's life for many years, making this session even more meaningful. Noble, now in her late twenties, has been with the family since she was a youngster, and seeing that lifelong partnership reflected in the photographs was incredibly special. There is something so heartwarming about documenting a bond that has grown over decades.

Once we'd finished the individual portraits, we headed up the beautiful driveway before slowly making our way back down, stopping whenever the light looked just right. Being photographed in June meant we were surrounded by vibrant greens, with warm sunlight filtering through the trees to create the dreamiest backdrop. Between photographs, Ellie and Noble were more than happy to enjoy a few well-earned snacks while everyone relaxed before the next set-up.

It was also lovely to include more of the family. Melissa's dad, Mike, joined us for part of the session, and it was important to capture him alongside the horses too. He was fantastic with them, and those photographs are sure to become treasured family memories for years to come.

Melissa's partner also joined in, making the session feel even more complete, and of course we couldn't forget Soundwave! Full of personality and energy, Soundwave certainly made sure everyone knew he was there. After patiently waiting for his turn, he absolutely loved having his own little moment in front of the camera and brought plenty of fun to the afternoon.

We finished the session overlooking the incredible views across the countryside, ending with Soundwave showing off his enthusiasm for life!

I can't wait to see these images in print, with some frames and a folio box designed, they are ready to be enjoyed every day.
