Every so often, a photoshoot comes along that feels less like work and more like stepping into a scene from a storybook. A recent shoot with Joelle and the rest of the family was just that. With the most epic location, and two horses that knew exactly how to post in front of the camera, it was a brilliant afternoon.
Joelle and I had worked together in the run up to the shoot to really explore the style she wanted in her photos. The aesthetic was unmistakably Ralph Lauren—effortless yet considered. Everyone's wardrobe flowed seamlessly with the natural palette around us. It was elegance without pretension, a kind of lived-in luxury that never felt posed. Adding in the two dogs, Luna and Summer, meant we could truly get everyone involved, and I think they both secretly loved their time in front of the camera!
When we have a lots of animals included in our shots, it's super important that we keep things straight forward. The dogs were a little nervous around the horses, so we made sure we got our big shots, and then included them in other ways without the horses to keep them happy. Amelie also wanted to finish the shoot to include Pecan, her hamster. It was a first time for me photographing a hamster, but I'm so glad Pecan could be part of the shoot! That little curvy piece of hair totally tops of her look!
If the idea of a a family shoot makes you think how on earth are we going to include everyone in this without causing chaos, please be assured it's completely achievable. And trust me , there will be days in the future you are so glad we managed to get everyone in front of the camera, rather than staying away from it!
