When Jenni and I booked her equine photoshoot, we opted for an early morning start in the hope of avoiding the rain forecast later in the day. Anyone reading this who has experienced Scottish weather this year, will probably agree that May and June this year have been a challenge to navigate weather-wise! Thankfully, we got lucky, and the rain held off for us.
Hazel, Jenni's beautiful Clydesdale mare, is kept at one of those hidden gem yards tucked away within a town. The kind of place you would never expect to find until you discover it. Behind the yard are lovely open fields, and to one side runs a picturesque little lane lined with hedgerows and trees, all bursting into flower.
We started our session down the lane. Hazel was absolutely fantastic from the very beginning. After multiple baths and feather washes in preparation, I think she initially assumed she was heading off to a show. It didn't take her long to realise that a morning filled with snacks, attention, and looking fabulous was actually quite enjoyable on her own terms!
Jenni kept her outfits relaxed and timeless, choosing a mix of jeans, shirts, and a beautiful summery dress that complemented both Hazel and the countryside setting perfectly.
Before heading out into the fields, we captured a selection of portraits in Hazel's stable. Jenni had enlisted the help of a friend for the shoot, who even scrubbed down the stable door beforehand to make sure everything looked its best. Now that's true friendship! These images are some of my favourites from the session, as they really show Hazel's kind nature and those wonderfully gentle eyes. She was such a sweet mare to photograph.
To finish, we headed out into the fields just as the sun began to make an appearance. The light became beautifully soft and golden, giving us the chance to create some gorgeous twinkly images surrounded by lush greenery.
As a final touch, Jenni asked if her Labrador, Willow, could join us for a few photographs. Willow finds the horses a little too exciting at times, so we worked fairly quickly, but it was lovely to include her and capture that extra piece of Jenni's family. Those images felt like the perfect way to end a wonderful morning.
Thank you, Jenni, for trusting me to capture these memories with Hazel and Willow. It was such a pleasure spending the morning with you all, and I'm so pleased the weather decided to cooperate for us.
