Back in August at Scone Horse Trials, I had the pleasure of meeting Janine, who decided to book in a session with me for her beautiful horse, Saf, and her two dogs, Gem and Evie. Fast forward a few weeks, and I made the trip out to her epic farm outside of Dundee — the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, lifestyle-inspired equine portrait shoot.

With acres of land to explore, we split the session into a few sections to give structure and variety, making sure to capture all the different sides of Janine’s life with her animals. The dogs were, of course, part of the action — adding so much personality and fun throughout the day.

Janine made it very clear from the outset that being in front of the camera wasn’t something she felt comfortable with (and she’s definitely not alone in feeling that way!). Signing yourself up for a shoot like this is never easy — it takes trust and a bit of bravery. But by keeping things super casual and relaxed, we were able to let the moments unfold naturally. After the viewing, Janine admitted — almost reluctantly! — that she might have actually enjoyed the process which is the biggest achievement I can aim for.

The final gallery sums up her lifestyle perfectly: the connection between horse, rider, and dogs; the beauty of the landscape around them. This shoot was all about capturing the little moments that are overlooked everyday, especially when we are getting blown away on a winters day! The two dogs are a huge part of Janine's life, so we made sure together some shots them too by themselves, even if Evie the Spaniel translated this into seeing how fast she could zoom around.

I can’t wait to see how Janine brings her images to life. She has chosen a stunning collection of Fine Art Mounted Prints, along with an epic 6-in-1 frame that will showcase the story of her shoot beautifully

It was such a pleasure to spend the day with Janine, Saf, Gem, and Evie — capturing not just portraits, but memories that reflect the bond and lifestyle they share.
