Samantha won one of my online shoot giveaways, winning the competition felt like a fitting way for Samantha to head into what’s shaping up to be a really exciting showjumping season. I can't wait to follow along with her successes. She is based at home with a cosy yard and a truly lovely group of horses.
Romeo, who is Samantha's main horse, took the lead for most of the session. He’s one of those horses that naturally draws your attention (which is understandable, as he is so handsome), so it made it easy to keep the focus there. We finished by including some of her younger horses, too!
The barn, in particular, was a real highlight. It is a beautiful wooden space with a lot of character. It is solid, simple, and has been a space for many happy memories. The light that comes through the windows was exactly what you hope for, soft but directional. It’s the kind of setting that does a lot of the work for you, and we ended up using it in a few different ways throughout the session.
Later on, we included a couple of other horses. It was a quieter way to include more of the horses that are also part of her world. Her little dog, Bear made sure he was involved too, popping in and out and adding a bit of life to the whole thing. We finished back in the barn with a simple black and white shot, the clock just visible in the frame. .
