There’s something special about photographing horses and their people in places that I work either regularly. Totlywells is a yard I’ve worked at a few times, but this visit was different—the fields had just been cut down to stubble, and the Autumn change in the weather meant that although we were dodging rain showers, we got some loverly warm colours peeking through.
This session was with Jacqui and her two gorgeous horses, Bailey and Joy. Bailey has been by Jacqui’s side the longest, and you can tell their bond runs deep. Joy, the younger of the two at just six years old, is the latest addition to the family, likes to keep busy and is full of inquisitive character.
Photographing them together was such great fun, and Jacqui did an amazing job of suiting our shoot being moved around to avoid the rain, to her horses' schedules to ensure they were as happy and content a possible. . Each horse brought their own character to the shoot—Bailey steady and grounded, Joy playful and inquisitive—and it was wonderful to capture those contrasts in the same session.
Jacqui’s outfits tied it all together beautifully; every look she chose added a touch of elegance against the soft tones of the stubble fields.
And just when we thought the session couldn’t get any better, Jacqui’s husband was persuaded to step in for a few group shots. Those images brought an extra layer of warmth and fun, highlighting not just the connection between Jacqui and her horses, but the horsey side to her lifestyle as a whole.
I wanted to share one of my fav route images from this session with you all, which is a little peephole through some trees in one of the stubble fields. It takes little bit of off-roading to get to on my end, however I love the natural framing effect it gives to this image. As always, it was an absolute pleasure shooting at Totleywells again, and I loved working with Jacqui on this shoot. I can't wait to see what the does with her images at the viewing.
