It's the middle of February as I write this, and we seem to have finally emerged from a period of rain and gloom that has lasted since the New Year. We have finally seen some sunshine, and it doesn't take much to inspire me to start writing about Spring. The transitional seasons are my favourite time of year for sure.
After the quiet dormancy of winter, everything begins to reawaken. The fields soften from muted browns into living greens, and suddenly daffodils and early spring flowers appear, brightening our surroundings almost overnight.
There’s a particular quality to spring light that simply cannot be recreated at any other time of year. The sun finally feels warm on your face, yet the shade still carries a cool reminder that summer has not fully arrived. This balance creates so much fun to be had with your outfits, and a huge range of images in your gallery.
The air feels lighter. Colours feel fresher. And photographs take on a bright, romantic quality that reflects the change happening all around us.
Styling for these special shoots
Spring styling is all about harmony being the right temperature with the ever changing weather, while feeling comfortable and in harmony with the vibrant colours around us.
- Elegant long coats, perfect for keeping the early morning chill away
- Neutral shirts and blouses, keeping things simple.
- Soft textures that move gently in the breeze - lighter shirts, long skirts or dresses.
- Earthy tones, creams, sage greens, blush pinks, and soft blues that complement the season’s palette
Flowy silhouettes photograph beautifully at this time of year, catching the spring air and adding effortless movement to your portraits. Layers also allow flexibility, cosy enough for cooler moments, yet light enough when the sun appears.
Spring has always been one of my favourite seasons to photograph because it feels as though the world is being kind to us. After months of stillness, colour slowly returns, to the landscape, to the light, and to us.
It’s a season of anticipation. Of warmth returning. Of longer evenings looking forward to summer plans.
Your images allow you to pause in the depth of winter for years to come, and remember, even when you're cold to your bones, that it's just round the corner.
