Ruby & Minnie – A Woodland Portrait Session

Miniature Dachshunds | Mother & Daughter

This recent session with Ruby and Minnie was one of those shoots where we had to act fast but the images are so worth it. Anyone who knows daschunds will know they can be a little opinionated, and you just have to work with what they offer on the day.

These guys were pretty awesome, and we headed into a little woodland patch at home, which is thick with greenery this time of year. The trees are in full leaf, casting dappled light across the undergrowth, and the paths are lined with ferns, moss, and the last of the spring buttercups. It’s a quiet, layered sort of landscape that works beautifully for natural portraits — full of texture and the perfect height for these little ones.

The weather gave us a real mix to work with — strong greens under sun-dappled tress, then softer, muted tones as clouds rolled in and the light changed. It’s always a treat to capture that transition in a shoot — the brighter, energetic frames slowly giving way to something calmer and more reflective. Both have their place, and with these two, every frame felt full of quiet character.

Their short-haired coats pick up the light beautifully, so we changed to a pathway, with a heavily shaded backdrop creating a lovely drop off to the shots. These were some from favourites form the shoot, and I can't wait for the texture to come out in print.

DOUBLE TROUBLE? ALWAYS. BUT ALSO FULL OF CHaracter, AND ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO PHOTOGRAPH.

Love these images, and would love some timeless moments of your pets, now is the time to go for it.
